A runner makes his way along a trail on a butte in front of the “super Moon” at Papago Park in Phoenix, Arizona May 5, 2012. A “super Moon” will light up Saturday’s night sky in a once-a-year cosmic show, overshadowing a meteor shower from remnants of Halley’s Comet, the U.S. space agency NASA said. The Moon will seem especially big and bright since it will reach its closest spot to Earth at the same time it is in its full phase, NASA said. Photo by REUTERS/Darryl Webb

MANILA, Philippines – The country will witness the so-called “super moon” tonight, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In an interview with dzMM TeleRadyo, PAGASA weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar explained the size of the “super moon” appears to be 14% larger than normal because the moon will be in its nearest distance from the Earth tonight.

Meanwhile, Escullar said it is going to be a warm Sunday across the country, particularly in the northern and central Luzon with just isolated rains in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said a high pressure area extending over Bicol region and Eastern Visayas is causing the hot weather.
